Itajime shibori silk scarf - light and dark blues
Itajime shibori silk scarf - light and dark blues
Itajime shibori requires careful folding then clamping to create kaleidoscopic patterns on fabric but I opt to inject the silk dyes directly into the folded silk parcels, which distributes the dyes in exciting and colourful ways.
The parcels themselves are made by folding and pressing the silk into equilateral triangles in a concertina fashion. It can be quite fiddly doing this across a long silk scarf and requires a certain Zen temperament!
Once folded, the parcels are then injected with high quality Dupont silk dyes and steamed in silver foil to fix the colour.
The fun bit is playing with the colours, blending and mixing to create new and interesting combinations.
Making these silk scarves is always a treat as you never know exactly how the pattern has turned out until you open the parcels. It never really feels like work!
