Itajime shibori silk scarf - Pink, magenta, brown and grey
Soft, luxurious habotai silk is my choice for my colourful hand dyed shibori scarves. They are super for a pop of colour to brighten up your outfit.
They are very versatile and also the perfect gift as they wrap up small and are very light.
Itajime shibori requires careful folding then clamping to create kaleidoscope patterns but I opt to inject the silk dyes directly into the folded silk, which gives a beautiful distribution of colour.
The parcels are made by folding the silk into equilateral triangles in a concertina fashion. It can be quite fiddly across the length of a long silk scarf and requires a certain Zen temperament!
Once folded, the parcels are then injected with high quality Dupont silk dyes and steamed in silver foil to fix the colour.
I love playing with the colours, blending and mixing to create new and unusual combinations.
I get a lot of satisfaction from making these silk scarves as you never know exactly how the pattern has turned out until you open the parcels. It never really feels like work!
