Itajime shibori silk scarf - Red, black, pink and grey
A soft silk scarf is the perfect accompaniment to a smart or casual look and mine are long enough to be worn in a variety of ways to suit your mood.
Itajime shibori requires meticulous folding and then clamping to create kaleidoscope patterns but I choose to inject the silk dyes directly into the folded silk, which gives a more interesting distribution of colour.
The parcels themselves are made by folding the silk into equilateral triangles in a concertina fashion, pressing each crease as you go. It can be quite fiddly across the length of a long silk scarf…
Having been folded, the parcels I then inject high quality Dupont silk dyes into different parts of the parcels and steam them to fix the colour.
These silk scarves are very enjoyable to make as you never know quite how the pattern has turned out until you open the parcels!
