Itajime shibori silk scarf - Purple, grey and blues
Itajime shibori silk scarf - Purple, grey and blues
Itajime shibori requires careful folding and then clamping of the fabric to create kaleidoscope patterns but I choose to inject the silk dyes directly into the folded silk, which gives a beautiful distribution of colour.
The parcels are made by folding the silk into equilateral triangles in a concertina fashion. It can be quite fiddly across the length of a long silk scarf and requires a certain Zen temperament!
Once folded, the parcels are then injected with high quality Dupont silk dyes and steamed in silver foil to fix the colour.
I really enjoy making these silk scarves as you never know exactly how the pattern has turned out until you open the parcels!
